You may have encountered the Deferral period on your last login to Ethena when setting up an assignment and are curious what it does? Well I'm here to help explain this for you!
What is the Deferral setting?
The deferral period is a setting to put training off for new hires added close to your annual training date.
You can set a deferral period for releasing course foundations to new hires and team members with role/location changes.
What does the Deferral setting do?
New team members and folks who require additional training because of a role or location change will immediately receive their course foundations (core curriculum) training, with the exception of those who join your team of change their role within your chosen deferral period.
For these team members, training will be deferred to your next annual training date. The default deferral period for all courses will be 3 months.
Where can I find and adjust the settings?
As shown below!
Alternatively, you can head to the assignment you would like to edit > click on the text next to "Deferral" > make your changes and save!
This visual helps to explain how this works overall in all time frames (If January 1st is the training date)
Okay, I think i've got it. Do you have an example?
When you make an edit in app, our calendar changes dynamically giving you an exact date range based on the annual training date date you have chosen. The below gif shows you what we mean by this and how it reacts making it super clear when folks will be assigned training based on your deferral settings.
With the previous visual getting us set up: let us say that our annual training date is set to the 1st January and we have a 3 month deferral period in place.
If we add new hire Stephen Frye on the 15th September, Core learning will be released and can be accessed straight away by Stephen. Then he will get training once again on January.
If we later add Delia Smith on the 15th October, she would not have access to training until the 1st January.
If we did need Delia to undertake core training beforehand, you can create a One-Time Assignment for Core Learning and assign this to her to complete. Then on January 1st she would be assigned annual training alongside the rest of your team to complete again.
Pictured below, see which automated assignments have deferral periods enabled on both the admin dashboard and on the automated assignment view.
