Your Case Management tool in Ethena now includes an additional section that can serve as a violent incident log to meet the requirements of California SB 553.
What is California SB 553?
California SB 553 is a law passed by the California legislature in 2023 requiring most CA employers to take a number of steps to prevent and address workplace violence, including:
- Creating a workplace violence prevention plan
- Training employees annually on the workplace violence prevention plan
- Offering channels for employees to report threats and incidents of violence, investigating those incidents, and keeping records in a violent incident log
Check out this article from our blog for more details on SB 553 and its requirements.
What is the violent incident log?
Per SB 553, covered employers are required to “record information in a violent incident log for every workplace violent incident”, and they must include a number of specific details in the log. These logs must be maintained for at least five years and provided to employees upon request.
How does Ethena’s violent incident log work?
In the violent incident log within Case Management, you can view and download any existing incident logs and create and edit new ones as needed.
To add a new violent incident, click the “Add Incident” button in the upper right corner. This will open up a form where you can add the details of the incident and save them to the log.
The form will ask you to include basic information about the incident and will prompt you to fill in fields that are specifically required by SB 553, such as the incident type and where it occurred.
Once you have completed logging the incident, you can save it to the log. Additional edits can be made and will be shown in a change log on the left side panel.
